When you move into your home, moving in is only part of your job. Your next step is personalizing it to make it comfortable and uniquely yours.

Before you even think about moving in your furniture, there are some small steps you should take to make your house a home. You want your new pad to feel like you, and to show off your style, personality, and likes. There are always ways to make your home comfortable. The following all offer tips on how you can make your home uniquely yours.

Start With the Walls

The walls are the first place you will go when you want to make your house a home. This can really turn your house into something that is more like a home. You may love bright, energetic colors, or you may prefer a less noticeable shade. Either way, you can't go wrong with changing the paint color to something that you love. There are even all sorts of ways you can add drama to your walls using paint. Look at painting techniques that you like such as sponging, rag rolling, wall paper border, and stenciling.

Add Your Life to Your Home

When you make a house your home, you will want to personalize it with the things that you love. Many times this means using items that you have and that have meaning to you to hang on the walls. Family pictures are the choice for many people. You can get fun and stylish frames and make a whole wall featuring your beloved photographs. Don't forget favorite art work or posters, too.

These can all create your own unique look when personalizing you home. You might also want to think about hanging things up that mean something to you. If you are an avid sports fan, then framing those sports jerseys will make your house "you."

Move in Your Furniture

You don't have to have fancy and expensive furniture to make your house a home. As a matter of fact, if you go out and buy expensive matching furniture at an expensive furniture store, then it may give your home a "too sterile" or uninviting look. You want your home to look lived in and comfortable. It needs to match your activities and hobbies. Don't be afraid to mix and match furniture pieces, making sure you are using the pieces that you love. Throw a nice slipcover on that old comfy sofa or use that beat-up end table that belonged to your grandmother. If you love it, then find a way to use it.

As you can see, there are many ways that you can make your house a home. The idea is to fill it with the things that you love and hold meaning to you. Then when people see your new home, they can't help but feel the joy you put into making your house a home.
